Berlin is the German city of industrial culture. International economic, technical and architectural history was written here. The upswing to the most modern metropolis on the European continent began with the rapidly growing electrical industry, which established Berlin’s reputation as an “electropolis” at the beginning of the 20th century. To this day, industrial sites, power stations and industrial yards form the special flair of Berlin.
The “Industriesalon Schöneweide” is a contact and information point for discovering Berlin’s industrial culture.
We offer interesting tours through Schöneweide, once an important location for Berlin’s electrical industry, which is now undergoing an exciting transformation.
A permanent exhibition in the “Industrie Salon” shows the history of the site. The 600 square metre hall was the preliminary workshop of the Oberschöneweide transformer factory (TRO) until the reunification. Now it offers space for changing exhibitions, lectures and events. The former factory museum of the “VEB Werk für Fernsehelektronik” (WF) can also be discovered here.
EXPERIENCE INDUSTRIAL CULTURE
A guided tour through Schöneweide, the historic “AEG city” in upheaval.
book1. Industriesalon
The Industrial Salon is an information and starting point for exploring the industrial heritage of the district. In a former production hall, a permanent exhibition shows the development of industrial history, marked by changing political systems up to heute’s high-tech companies on site. In the visitor centre the industrial salon offers expert guided tours: From the authentic locations of the AEG start-up centre – through the combined companies of the GDR – to the location in upheaval. Exploring the city in the area of conflict between its heritage as a listed building and the demands of a future “smart city”.
